Mickey Leroy Gilley (9 March 1936 – 7 May 2022) was an American singer and songwriter of country music. Although he began his career in the 1970s singing straightforward country and western music, he shifted to a more pop-friendly sound in the 1980s, which brought him additional success on both the country and pop charts.
“Room Full of Roses,” “Don’t the Girls All Get Prettier at Closing Time,” and the remake of the soul hit “Stand by Me” are among his biggest hits. 42 of Gilley’s singles peaked in the top 40 of the US Country chart. Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl McVey, and Jimmy Swaggart were his cousins.

Mickey Gilley was born in Natchez, Mississippi on March 9, 1936 to parents Arthur Fillmore Gilley and Irene. Several years are spent working for Jerry Lee Lewis. As children, the performer shared the stage with Lewis and Jimmy Swaggart. Jerry instructed him and Jimmy in piano. They performed Gospel and boogie-woogie together.
