Pilavulkandi Thekkeparambil Usha was born on June 27, 1964, in Payyoli village, and is also known as PT Usha. His father’s name is E.P.M. Patil, and his mother’s name is T.V. Lakshmi. P.T. Usha had poor health as a child, but she improved her health during her primary school years, and people began to see the image of a great athlete in her.

The Kerala government established a women’s sports centre in Kannur in 1976. O.M. was his first coach. There were nambiars present. P T Usha first came to public attention in 1979, when she won the individual championship at the National Sports Games.

P T Usha began her international career as an athlete in 1980 at the ‘Pakistan Open National Meet’ in Karachi. PT Usha won four gold medals in this athlete’s meet for India. The Olympic Games were held in Seoul in 1988, and PT Usha was scheduled to compete, but she suffered a leg injury just before the games. But PT Usha’s SPIRIT was unaffected, and she competed in the Games for her country in the same condition. Unfortunately, she did not fare well in these games, and she did not win a single one.
