Rockstar Games, a subsidiary of Take-Two Interactive Software Inc., is gearing up to unveil the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI, with an announcement expected as early as this week, as per sources familiar with the company’s plans.
The forthcoming Grand Theft Auto VI trailer is set to be released next month, marking the celebration of Rockstar’s 25th anniversary, according to insiders who preferred to remain anonymous due to a lack of authorization to speak publicly on the matter. Despite attempts to reach out to Rockstar for comment after business hours, there has been no immediate response from the company.
Grand Theft Auto VI has generated immense excitement among both fans and investors, poised to become one of the most significant entertainment releases of the decade. Its predecessor, Grand Theft Auto V, holds the distinction of selling over 185 million copies, securing its place as the second-best-selling video game of all time, trailing only behind Minecraft, which benefits from being playable on various platforms, including phones.
Rockstar Games has dedicated recent years to addressing concerns about its corporate culture and work-life balance, following complaints of employee burnout during the development of its last game, Red Dead Redemption 2, released in 2018.
Despite the anticipation surrounding Grand Theft Auto VI, the journey to its release has faced challenges, including a security breach last year where hackers leaked early footage of the game. Rockstar attributed the breach to a “network intrusion” and assured the public that they would provide a proper introduction to the game when it was ready. Earlier this year, two UK teenagers were convicted in a London criminal trial for their involvement in the hack.
Reportedly set in a fictional version of Miami, Grand Theft Auto VI is said to feature two protagonists, a male and a female, according to information from Bloomberg News.
Take-Two Interactive Software Inc. is scheduled to report earnings on Wednesday, providing further insights into the financial landscape surrounding the much-anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI release.
