Steve Martin is a multiple-award-winning American comedian, actor, and writer who first gained recognition as a writer for the “Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour.” He began his career as a stand-up comic, performing his routines in local clubs. Stephen Glenn “Steve” Martin was born on August 14, 1945, to Mary Lee and Glenn Vernon Martin in Waco, Texas. His father was in the real estate business.

As a teenager, he sold guidebooks on the weekends and during the summer at Disneyland. He also performed magic at the Main Street Magic shop and, over time, mastered a variety of illusions and tricks.

After completing high school, he attended Santa Ana Junior College, where he studied drama and English poetry. Philosophy was his major at State College in Long Beach, California.
