Alex Yee of England won the Commonwealth Games' first gold medal in the triathlon.

He made light work of before leading the entire 20km bike leg in a front pack of three.

The men's field gathered at Powell's Pool in a comfortable 22°C for the incredibly quick, wetsuit-free 750m swim.

Yee was standing next to Wilde, who was already aware of the 10 second punishment.

Wilde filtered off to serve his time after receiving a respectful pat on the back from the Kiwi and a fist-bump from the Londoner.

Yee rounded the curve and onto the finish line while giving his fellow triathlete a handclap in appreciation.

It was incredible to be a part of that, to have that moment, that’s… I don’t know how often I’ll get to have that. It’s just really special.
